Trendwatching for Marketers

Posted on by Dana VanDen Heuvel

During the last AMA Technomarketing event, a few people in the class asked about which sites I follow to keep up on emerging trends in marketing and culture.  I think that every marketer is partially responsible for being a trendwatcher in their company.  They need to know what customers are thinking, what the market is thinking and how they’re going to position their organization and engage in a market dialogue in the future.  Besides, trendwatching is just fun!

Here are the links to a few that I find useful:

Iconoculture – I also recommend subscribing to their newsletter.  It has some wonderful new insights every month.
Trendsspotting – This site is a must read!  They also publish some great materials on Slideshare.
Trendwatching – A great site that creates monthly reports on emerging trends.
Springwise – These guys capture more than just trends, but also business and cultural ideas from around the world. Subscribe to their feed to keep current.
Trend Hunter – Also a great site on trends and micro-trends
Cool Hunting – Another site that’s in my ‘trends’ folder in my RSS reader.  Great new product ideas here…
There are also several good slideshows on Slideshare.net on trends for 2009.
Here are a few of my favorites:
