Quick Marketing Tip

#1: Add Value

Discounting trains your client to expect more discounts, whereas a “free gift” is something that's given in addition to what they're already buying! Gifts almost always works better than a discount. Why? Because even with a discount, you still get the same thing. But a free gift is something in addition to your product.

Insurgent Marketing for Startups

Underdog's Are the Best MarketersA number of our clients have been startup or young companies that have adopted the Thought Leadership Marketing model. However, a penchant for thought leadership is just one component of the insurgent mindset that most startups have. Startups, and other savvy companies like Frito Lay, Starbucks Ben & Jerry's often included insurgent, or underdog, marketing tactics often seen only in political campaigns but that work very well in certain business situations.

For as much as ‘political marketing’ changes, there are some fundamentals that are long-standing and ever-green. Moreover, it’s these same strategies that subtly (or, not so subtly) allow thought leadership marketers to leverage their point of view to gain share of voice and share of market, as detailed in the thought leadership marketing equation. Let’s have a look at how thought leaders can leverage insurgent marketing to dominate their market.

If you're interested in learning more about thought leadership or insurgent marketing, drop us a line.

Client Spotlight: Thought Leadership Marketer

Ping.fmLife Meets Work is a consultancy and online community helping companies and individuals expand opportunities for flexible work. For anyone who's every dreamed that "there has to be a better way" to outside of the corporate norms of big office, stale air and no flexibility, Life Meets Work has got your back!

Kyra Cavanaugh and Life Meets work are clients of our Thought Leadership Marketing practice. I sat down (via email, of course) with Kyra recently and asked about how thought leadership has helped her business.

Kyra, what brought you to the concept of thought leadership?

A lot in our world has changed, but business and brand building is still about being credible and authentic in your relationships.  Thought leadership marketing has enabled me to take advantage of both new media and traditional methods to establish the expertise, credibility and authenticity that builds relationships, and ultimately results in more business.

What Thought Leadership Marketing tools do you use?

Social Media (Linked In, Twitter, Slideshare), Blogging, Email Newsletter, Research Reports, White Paper, Working on a book, Articles, Speaking Engagements, Events, Member of Workplace Excellence and Workforce Preparation committees at Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Lead nurturing program.

And, how has it worked out for you?

It's helped with brand building, expanding our circle of influence, building strategic alliances, increased sales and customer retention. I'm also gaining the attention of competitors who've been reaching out to figure ways we can work together.  That's a direct result of my thought leadership presence online.
